There are several ways to get help when working with OpenFOAM.

OpenFOAM and OpenCFD When you start with OpenFOAM and know something about computers then the information on the OpenFOAM website will probably get you a long way. Also, the company behind OpenFOAM, OpenCFD® Ltd, offers support contracts.
Courses But even so, it may be worthwhile to do a course like the ones that are organized by the Dutch OpenFOAM User Group. This will help you across the usual beginners problems. And it will learn you the tips and tricks for OpenFOAM that make you more efficient right away.
Forums Once you are working with OpenFOAM, you will probably run into problems now and then, just as with commercial software. In that case, you can check out the OpenFOAM website, in particularly the forums, to see if anyone has already answered your problem. If not, then you can put your question or problem on the forum and hope that someone will answer it. Whether that happens or not is a matter of chance.
CFDdesk In most cases, this is not acceptable. For instance: if you have a tight deadline and the problem that you encounter cannot be ignored. For such a situation, it is best to have a support contract with an organization that can guarantee the proper service levels. There are several such organizations for OpenFOAM. In the Netherlands, VORtech/Actiflow’s service desk for OpenFOAM offers this kind of support right around the corner.
